Valentines: I don’t like red roses.

Oh joy. It is that time of year of kiddie Valentines. Yes, I was drug to the store so the perfect Valentines could be chosen. We get home and the girls are bouncing to get started organizing who got what card. LOL I’d say they were as excited about Valentines as they are about Smencils (smelly pencils Annmarie mailed them). Should I mention they know Annmarie’s ring tone and answer my phone if I am…oh say in the shower? Apparently there was a discussion about Smencils. Oh, and they forgot to tell me she called. LOL

I’m not overly into the whole Valentine’s thing. I kind of cringe at it. Why? Red roses. I don’t like them. No, really.

The ex used to give me red roses. I got several dozens of roses from him while we dated, particularly on Valentines. Then we broke up one summer. Took me a few months to get my heart on even keel. One of the things I did was move to a new campus apartment and join a sorority. A fresh start… I wanted to meet new friends, new guys….

Then his birthday passed. A day or two later I got a box of a dozen red roses from him with a note about missing me on his birthday. To say I was upset is putting it mildly. How the HELL did he find me? (This is before internet.) I moved so he couldn’t find me. I was a basket case. To be honest, I have no idea what happened after that, but yeah, I did cave and talk to him. We sort of made up but I kept our relationship a secret from my family for months. Over the holiday I didn’t talk to him. (I was home, and I wanted to keep the secret, especially when I was about to have surgery on my ankle…long story.) I broke up with him a few days before Valentines.

Since then I disliked roses. And I am not a fan of Valentines.

The good thing out of this? I met Mark (the future husband) a few months later.
