Editing my ms and my role as Senior Editor & Acquisitions
Can I fast forward a few days? I mean, seriously? Ugh.
The kids are home from school on Friday and Monday. Teacher work days. What, they don’t work when the kids are AT school? I’m just sayin’. Top it off they had an early release today from school. Four and a half days of kidlets running amuck in the house.
Shoot me now.
I have work to do…rewrites and reading submissions for Passion In Print. I have several submissions I need to read through and evaluate.
How do I read submissions? I convert the files for Mobipocket and upload to my iPaq pocket pc. I like it because I have the expansion pack for it, so it has lots of memory. I also take notes as I read. If I reject something, I want to tell the author why. And if I accept something, I get a jump on my content editing.
No, I don’t line edit. I’m reading for content. I expect manuscripts to come to me polished needing minimal line edits. I will evaluate that in the acquisitions process. If a manuscript needs grammar work, I will let the author know so they can fix the problem and resubmit. (For more on Passion In Print and submissions, check out my editor blog at http://editormari.blogspot.com
I anticipate doing a push for submissions once the publisher website is up, however I will take email queries at editormari @ hotmail.com On my editor blog I do list the submissions email if authors wish to go ahead and send a partial, synopsis and cover letter. Please, paste your cover letter in your email.
I would love to see some paranormal erotic romances come through submissions. Dark and dangerous heroes. I love shifters in particular, but I’m open to all dark fantasy romance like vampires, demons, etc. I’d also love to get more historical erotic romances. Vikings, pirates, knights, gladiators, cowboys, etc. Make me fall in love with your hero, and I’ll ask for more.
