More Chemistry: Rose and Jack

Who can not mention Jack and Rose from Titanic when talking about chemistry? What woman didn’t sigh when Jack stood behind Rose on the bow during that famous flying scene? I loved that scene, and the chemistry between Jack and Rose is stuff legends are made of. I think I went to see this in the movies several times just to see this chemistry in action. I mean, his hands with hers…wow.

Of course in Titanic, there is that steamy car scene… It wouldn’t mean anything if that underlying sexual chemistry between the characters was absent.

I always cry at the end when they are finally reunited. Cry like a baby.

The video below is the only one I could find of that first kiss scene from Titanic with the actual audio.

More chemistry: Han Solo & Princess Leia

Not so literary, but they had chemistry–Han Solo and Princess Leia. What girl in the 80s didn’t wish they had a scoundrel like Han romancing them into a kiss? I saw this movie as a kid and ended up with a big crush on Han. The newer movies couldn’t find the same chemistry between Anakin and Padme like there was between Han and Leia. (I thought the romance between Anakin and Padme was forced, and don’t get me started on her weakened character in the third movie. What the hell happened to the kick ass heroine from Phantom Menace? She can’t find the will to live to care for her twins? Lucas could have killed her off by the Emperor and I would have accepted that much easier than her simply dying from a broke heart…ahem, anyway…)

Han and Leia had chemistry, and I was one of thousands of little girls wishing I could find a sexy space smuggler to sweep me off my feet. (It could still happen. Well, in my dreams it can. LOL)

You like me because I’m a scoundrel. Oh yes, yes we do!!

You could use a good kiss! Heh, that is always a classic comeback.

More chemistry: Mr Darcy & Elizabeth

Even though I personally prefer the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, the one with Keira Knightley is pretty up there too. I am not crazy about her so much as Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy. I didn’t like him at first, but wow…the look in his eyes in some of the scenes just melts my heart. He did a good job in playing the part I swore belonged forever to Colin Firth. He definitely won me over, especially nailing the simmering chemistry between Darcy and Elizabeth. (Elizabeth is my favorite heroine in literature.)

Yes, I have read the book and it is one of my all time favorites. I’ve read it a few times.

At RWA National during the Sourcebooks publisher spotlight they told the audience of their hope to corner the market on P&P sequels. I believe it. Before they even mentioned it, one of the five books I bought at the signing was a P&P sequel, Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy. I guess I am a sucker for the continuing romance of Darcy and Elizabeth. There’s one P&P sequel that kind of blows my mind: Mr Darcy, Vampire. I can’t even imagine. LOL

Here’s a music video of Pride and Prejudice to the song My Immortal. It is haunting and beautiful.

Again, chemistry.

The domestic goddess I am not

Ugh. I can’t believe I slept so late. No, correction, I can’t believe my kids let me sleep so late. They are usually waking me up bright and early. I’m glad they let me sleep. I’m tired and a little sick to my stomach. I always get that way when the inlaws are about to visit or when we are planning a trip to visit them.

I still have things around the house to clean up today. The domestic goddess I am not, but will make the attempt to make things look neat. I will hear about the clutter though, but come on, I do have little kids. They only have so much room in their bedroom. It doesn’t bother me if the toys are in their 2 bins in the livingroom, so why should it bother anyone else? As long as they aren’t scattered everywhere or all over the floor, I’m okay with it. Believe me, the kids love spreading out their toys, especially the stuffed animals. They line them up on the sofa and you have no where to sit because they are playing school…or whatever.

*sigh* It’s almost 11 and I need to get going. Where’s my coffee?

Sexual Chemistry

“Is there something between us, Brooke?” His voice husky, his control nearly at the breaking point.

She gazed at him with those warm chocolate eyes. “I think so.”

He took a step closer and tilted her face upward to meet his gaze. “What would you call this?”

“Chemistry?” she answered in a wavering voice.

He leaned closer and began to lightly kiss her face. “Chemistry,” he repeated in a whisper against her skin.

Sexual chemistry.” She eased into him, her hands sliding along his abdomen and chest.

He soothed her hesitance with each pass of his lips along her jaw and neck. He wrapped his arms about her and breathed in the citrus scent that he’d forever associate with her. At her ear he softly said, “I think we need to explore this sexual chemistry further.”

With the light nibble of her ear lobe, she snaked her arms about his shoulders and clung to him, her nails scraping his skin through the fabric of his shirt.

Then she breathlessly whispered, “Yes, I definitely think we should.”

Ever been struck speechless and completely blindsided by someone? What is it that draws you to a person on a level beyond the physical features? Chemistry.

I am reading about attraction and chemistry for, ya know, research. Yeah. Research. No, seriously, chemistry is what makes a good romance a heart pounding page turner. In my reading I found an interesting article on chemistry, and I reposted it on the The Writer Chicks. Go check it out.

The above is from a first kiss scene I worked on this past weekend. Not too shabby IMHO. My H&H have chemistry. *fanning self*
